What this page covers

NWSL Notebook (nwslnotebook.com) is published by NWSL Data. This page says what the site records about you, what it never records, and how to stop any of it. Nothing on the site needs an account: the record, the stories, and the games are open to everyone.

Reading the site

Hosting. The site runs on Vercel. Its servers keep the usual request logs — the address a request came from, the page asked for, the time — for a short period, for security and reliability.

Counting visits. Vercel Web Analytics counts visits and pages without cookies or identifiers.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is read. It records which pages are viewed, moves from one page to another, whether a game was started or finished, whether an ad space loaded and whether an ad filled it, and which group your browser was drawn into for a site experiment. It never records your name, your email, a game answer or score, a search, or anything you type. Google Analytics collects and processes this data on our behalf using cookies and similar identifiers; see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Where consent comes first. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, no measurement or advertising cookie is set until you answer the consent message, and you can decline. One thing is kept from the first visit everywhere: a random identifier in your browser's local storage that decides which group you are in for a site experiment, including whether you are shown ads at all. It never leaves your browser and identifies no one; clearing the site's data removes it. Everywhere else, measurement and advertising cookies are on by default, and the opt-outs below apply.

Advertising

We show ads from Google AdSense, in labeled spaces that never sit inside a table, a story, or a game.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Our own setting is stricter than that: we ask Google to serve ads without personalization, and nothing about your account, your Fantasy team, your play, or your searches is used to choose an ad. While we measure whether ads change how people read, some readers are shown no ads at all; which group you are in is decided at random by your browser and kept only there.

The only vendor serving ads on this site is Google. Its practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy.

What your browser keeps

The games remember your progress in your browser's local storage: today's grid, the trivia tally, a 30-0 season. Your moves are sent to our game service to be checked against the record and are not kept against you. Your browser also holds a random identifier that decides which group you are in for a site experiment; it never leaves your browser. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes all of it. Cookies set by Google for measurement and advertising are described above, and signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in.

If you sign in

Fantasy uses Google's Firebase for sign-in. We hold the email address and sign-in identity you use, and the teams, leagues, and lineups you create. We may email you about your team on match days; reply to any such email to stop them. Studio, the writing desk, is private to the writers and editors who use it.

To see what we hold about you, or to delete your account and everything with it, email tom@nwsldata.com from the address on the account.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

California and other U.S. state rights

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law, and we serve ads without personalization. You may still use the opt-outs above, and you may email us to ask what we hold about you or to have it deleted.

Changes and contact

When a practice changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Questions go to tom@nwsldata.com.
